Network for the future

We are convinced: gas will remain a key part of Switzerland’s energy supply - today as a bridge energy, tomorrow as part of a climate-neutral solution. As part of a secure, economical and climate-friendly supply, we take responsibility: with a high-performance infrastructure that transports gas today and renewable energy sources tomorrow. In doing so, we are laying the foundations for a sustainable energy future - without losing focus on reliability and efficiency.

Our strength is based on decades of experience in the safe operation of gas pipelines and plants. Until 2025, we were known as Erdgas Ostschweiz AG - but our roots go back to the municipal gasworks in Schlieren. This expertise is supported by dedicated employees who use their specialist knowledge and sense of responsibility to ensure a safe, reliable and sustainable energy transport.

Our mission statement

What drives us is more than just technology: as a responsible Transport System operator (TSO), we act according to clear principles every day. They are the foundation of our culture and characterise how we think, make decisions and work together - with customers, partners and as a team.

Reliable service, the highest safety and quality standards, economic thinking, sustainable action and the commitment of our employees are at the centre of everything we do. This is how we create trust - today and in the future.

Management

Our management team steers Ganeos AG with experience, vision and clear values. Together, they combine expertise, entrepreneurial vision and team spirit to shape a strong energy future in Eastern Switzerland.

Integrity and responsibility in day-to-day work

We operate a critical infrastructure and bear a great deal of responsibility, not only for a secure energy supply, but also in our dealings with business partners. This is why we promote and demand a corporate culture that consistently focuses on compliance-compliant behaviour. Our actions are guided by clear values and binding guidelines that are enshrined in our Code of Conduct.

This commitment is an expression of our conviction to practise responsible and transparent business practices. In this way, we secure the long-term trust that our partners place in us

Environmentally conscious in every area

Sustainability is part of our everyday life and increasingly influences the way we work. We act responsibly in all areas of our work, continuously review processes and projects for their environmental impact and are always looking for ways to optimise them. We also sensitise our employees to sustainable thinking and action and specifically promote initiatives that conserve resources and contribute to reducing our ecological footprint in the long term.

Since 1998, our company premises have been certified for their natural design - with the quality label of the Nature & Economy Foundation. We create a habitat for plants and animals on 20,000 m² of green space and offer employees a beautiful working environment surrounded by greenery.

From the beginnings until today

Schlieren gasworks site

At the end of the 19th century, the demand for gas increased rapidly in Zurich - initially as a replacement for oil lighting, later also for heating. The wood gas plant on the Platzspitz was soon too small, which is why the plant was relocated to Schlieren in 1893 and put into operation in 1898. Production had to be adjusted several times in the following decades. Coal shortages during the world wars led to emergency solutions such as gas from peat or wood. The switch to imported natural gas began in 1972 and the gas coking plant was shut down in 1974.

Built in 1897, the gasworks is still a defining reminder of Zurich's industrial and urban history

Gasverbund Ostschweiz AG

In 1966, Gasverbund Ostschweiz AG (GVO) was founded in Zurich - an association of municipal and private gasworks for the efficient, high-quality supply of gas. In 1969, it commissioned a modern splitting plant that supplied the interconnected network with detoxified gas and was controlled remotely from a central location.

With the connection to the Netherlands-Italy natural gas transit pipeline, the complete switch to natural gas took place between 1972 and 1974. The last coal gas chamber in Schlieren was closed on 6 May 1974 - the end of the coal gas era

Erdgas Ostschweiz AG

In 1992, the partners laid the foundations for a strategic realignment with a new shareholders' agreement, revised articles of association and clear principles on pricing and the purpose of the company. The visible step outwards followed a year later: On 18 November 1993, Gasverbund Ostschweiz AG became Erdgas Ostschweiz AG.

On 1 October 2014, the company founded the subsidiary Open Energy Platform AG. This was a targeted response to changing market conditions and created a strong foundation for further strategic development.
