Gas network

Ganeos' gas network, which is over 600 kilometres long, ensures a reliable and secure gas transport for eastern Switzerland and the Greater Zurich Area.

A secure transport network as the backbone of the gas transport

Modern monitoring systems and careful maintenance management ensure maximum operational reliability. Six feeds into our high-pressure network and around 60 pressure-reducing stations ensure precise distribution and reliable network operation.

Many specialists working hand in hand are needed to make this work: Engineers plan and optimise the network, draughtsmen and women create technical documents, planners and project managers coordinate construction projects, organise the work, monitor the execution and liaise closely with external partners. Last but not least, route employees check and maintain the pipelines and systems on site, while our dispatchers control and monitor the gas flows and the entire system around the clock. Together, they guarantee a stable gas supply

High safety standards

The gas pipelines run mostly invisibly underground so that they are neither audible nor disruptive to the landscape. Every 200 to 400 metres, the eye-catching orange flight markers, known as "Vogelhüsli", indicate the exact route of the pipelines. Our route inspectors inspect the entire pipeline route every fortnight - alternately with a vehicle or from the air by helicopter.

They always keep a watchful eye out for possible changes in the terrain, unknown construction activities or other activities that could jeopardise the pipelines. We are also under federal supervision - similar to the operators of reservoirs.

On duty around the clock: our dispatching service

Our dispatching is the centrepiece of safe network operation. The dispatchers monitor the high-pressure network 365 days a year, around the clock - 24/7, ensuring that the gas is transported in a controlled, stable and safe manner at all times. Our trained specialists recognise potential disruptions at an early stage. In the event of an incident, they intervene immediately and coordinate all necessary measures with internal teams, upstream and downstream network operators and emergency and alarm organisations. Thanks to state-of-the-art control technology and clearly defined processes, the transport remains secure even in extraordinary situations.

Find a local gas supplier

Gas is supplied in Switzerland by local and regional companies. They are often part of the public administration and also offer other supply services such as electricity, water, district heating, wastewater disposal and the operation of cable networks. Some large industrial customers are supplied directly from the high-pressure pipelines by the regional companies.
